Nepean Hospital

Engineering for Healthcare: Nepean Hospital Upgrade

The $576 million Nepean Hospital development is a critical Tier-1 healthcare infrastructure upgrade, delivering an expanded Emergency Department and over 200 additional beds. As part of this major public sector project, JSBC Consulting was engaged to provide specialized structural engineering for the hospital’s internal fit-outs and comprehensive structural reviews for its exterior signage.

Working within a live or newly constructed hospital environment requires strict adherence to stringent healthcare building codes and public safety standards.

1. Healthcare Fit-Out Engineering

Hospital interiors demand rigorous structural coordination to support complex architectural layouts, patient wards, and heavy essential services. We engineered the robust structural supports, floor loading modifications, and framing systems required to safely deliver the highly specialized fit-out of the new clinical and emergency spaces.

2. Structural Adequacy & Signage Review

Clear, large-scale wayfinding is vital for an emergency facility, but attaching massive signs to a hospital facade introduces significant wind-load and structural risks.

Rather than ground-up design, JSBC acted as the structural authority to review and certify these elements. We conducted detailed structural reviews of the proposed exterior signage, verifying the structural adequacy of the steel frameworks and their connection points to the existing building. This ensured the installations were fully compliant with high wind-load requirements without compromising the hospital’s weatherproofing or facade integrity.
