Engineering for Resilience: Edmondson Park Service Centre

Located at 2072 Camden Valley Way, the Edmondson Park Service Centre is a major commercial and transport hub. As the lead structural engineers, JSBC Consulting delivered end-to-end services—from initial concept to final site inspections—for this precinct, which includes a petrol station with a large-span dispenser canopy and five distinct blocks of commercial buildings.

The standout achievement of this project was engineering a structural solution to overcome significant site-specific environmental challenges.

1. Flood Mitigation: The Suspended Parking Deck

Building commercial infrastructure in flood-prone or low-lying areas requires innovative engineering to protect the assets and the public. Instead of relying on traditional slab-on-ground construction, which would block natural water flow and risk inundation, JSBC engineered a highly specialized solution.

Our team designed a massive suspended parking deck supported entirely on piles. This acts effectively like a bridge, elevating the precinct’s vehicles and infrastructure while allowing major floodwaters to pass safely underneath the site without compromising the structural integrity of the development above.

2. Commercial Scale
Delivering five separate commercial blocks and a major petrol station canopy requires a focus on structural efficiency and rapid construction.

Canopy Engineering:
We designed the structural steelwork for the main dispenser canopy to achieve the long, column-free spans required for safe and easy vehicle turning paths.
