As the structural engineering consultants for the future-planned Dubbo Indoor Sports Facility on River Street, JSBC is delivering the structural design for a premier regional community asset. Integrating five full-sized indoor courts, a commercial-grade gymnasium, and a dedicated PCYC, this multi-purpose space demands highly specialized, large-scale structural solutions.
Designing for sports and recreation requires a fundamental shift in engineering priorities—moving away from traditional vertical load paths to focus heavily on horizontal spans and dynamic structural movement.
1. Mastering Long-Span Steel: The Column-Free Courts
The defining requirement of any major indoor sports arena is completely unobstructed space. To accommodate five simultaneous courts safely, the structure cannot rely on internal support columns.
To achieve this, JSBC is engineering a massive, long-span steel roof structure. By utilizing advanced structural steel truss designs, we are able to span vast distances across the building footprint. This highly efficient steelwork transfers the heavy roof loads directly to the perimeter walls, ensuring safe, unimpeded play areas and perfectly clear sightlines for spectators and referees.
